Teaching My Kids Too Well

Jackson is always saying the most funny things. I don't know where he gets these little gems.  I do think last night may have been one of the best.  A few weeks ago for FHE we learned about David and Goliath.  He thought this was a cool lesson.  We had Jackson act like he was David and Ryan was Goliath.  J has some plastic rocks that he got for Christmas a couple years ago, these of course were the stones.  It was a fun evening. Well last night I told Jackson that he needed to clean his room.  He didn't like this idea to much.  He put up such a fight.  I told him he needed to stay in his room until it was clean.  I was sitting on the couch and Jackson came into the living room and threw something at me.  Ryan of course got upset and put Jackson in his room.  Jackson kept trying to explain why he did what he did.  He came to apologize to me and explained, "Mom remember when we had Family Home Evening and we through rocks at the bad guy and we used that towel (the sling).  That is what I was doing."  I said, "So you are saying that I am Goliath, the bad guy?" Jackson said with no hesitation, "YES!"  Maybe we need to review the story again, or maybe he gets it a little too well.  What do you think?

History is being Made

I remember when I was in school and read about different historic things that happened, and I always thought I wish I could have been there. How exciting that I can turn on my TV and see this inauguration. It doesn't matter that I don't exactly agree with all of his policies or beliefs. America has taken a long awaited step forward today. How exciting to be apart of it.

The New Year!!

I have been such a blogging slacker. My camera wasn't hooking up to my computer, I have become addicted to facebook and well I am just a slacker. We started 2009 pretty quiet. We just watched movies and then put the kids to bed. We were laying in bed talking and noticed it was midnight. We gave each other a kiss and went to sleep. Isn't the life of a married couple so glamorous? The next day we had a great breakfast and then watched football most of the day. We have a tradition in my family to go see a movie (just the girls) on New Years Day. This year we went and saw High School Musical 3. It was so much fun. It is too bad that High School wasn't like that. We have been playing in the snow a lot. For almost a week all it did was snow. It's fun for the holidays and then I am done with it. I am sick of shoveling the snow and falling on ice. The kids have enjoyed playing in it. We have built a snowman we went sledding the other day and that was so much fun. Jackson loved it. Before hand he kept telling us that we was just going to sit in the car, and he didn't want to go sledding. Then we got there and was loving it. As we were driving home he said, "Mom aren't you glad I changed my mind and came sledding." This kid is so funny. So we are enduring the snow and the cold and waiting impatiently for Spring. I think that I am going to try skiing this year. I had a bad experience when I was younger, so I am trying to overcome my fears. That is what my goals are for this new year. I want to try new things. I am not going to go out and buy leather pants (FRIENDS REFERENCE for those unaware). I am training for a half marathon, and want to read more so I started a book club, and Ryan and I are going to start skiing. We will have to see how it goes. So far so good. I hope everyone had a great start to 2009.

Christmas at the McCartys

I love Christmas. It is the best time of year. I love that Ryan has two weeks off from work so he can play with us. I love shopping for presents for my kids and seeing them opening up presents on Christmas morning. I also love Christmas music. This Christmas was particularly fun. Having Miley old enough to open presents and be excited was such fun. On Christmas Eve we went to Mom and Dad McCarty's and had the most incredible Prime Rib meal. My mother-in-law sure knows how to cook. Ryan's sister Tanya and her family were there and us. It was so nice. We ate forever and then we had a little Christmas program reading Luke 2 and singing Christmas songs. Then we all shared our favorite thing about Christmas. Then came the presents. My goodness my children (and Ryan and I) are so spoiled. Poor Santa Claus couldn't live up to what Grandpa & Grandma McCarty gave. It was a great night. As I was getting ready to go over to Ken & Debbie's Jackson came in to the bathroom and asked me if I was going to wrap his present. I told him that I already wrapped his presents. He asked me about the big huge truck in the closet that is way up at the top of the closet. Busted. I told Ryan to hide the remote control truck and the best he could do was put it at the top of the closet. We told Jackson that we were holding if for Tanner (his cousin). That seemed to suffice. On our way home from Mom & Dad McCarty the kids fell asleep. How great is that? We put the kids to bed and went to work. I have had a tradition in my family that includes watching White Christmas on Christmas Eve. I love this movie and we only watch it on Christmas Eve. No cheating and sneaking a peek anytime of the year. So Ryan and popped in White Christmas & decided to help Santa out with some gifts. We didn't buy anything that had too much put together so we thought we would get to go to bed early. How wrong we were. We bought a kitchen for Miley. This really cute kitchen. We opened the box and saw the contents. They were all in pieces. We thought that it was already assembled. How naive' are we. So we spent close to 3 hours putting together this stupid kitchen together. We now have a new tradition we watch White Christmas and put toys together. Miley has been sick with an ear infection and so she would get up at night and just cry. It is so sad. So, of course as soon as we get to bed she wakes up so I got up with her and just snuggled with her in the front room. Well, Jackson got up and came and saw me & Miley. He came in the front room and saw the presents. I told him to go and lay down with Ryan, which he did. That morning when he woke he kept saying, "Mom you know how I came out at night and saw what Santa Claus brought me, well I am so sorry that I saw them." He just kept saying this over and over. It was so sweet, because he is so sincere. Him and Miley were so excited with what they got. It was fun to see their faces. We opened presents and then went to my mom's house for a incredible breakfast and opened presents and just vegged. It was so much fun. We just sat around and talked and then at one point we all fell asleep which was fantastic (staying up all night with a sick baby and making that stupid kitchen really takes it out of you). It was a really nice Christmas. I am so grateful to have family close and to spend the holidays with them.

Ryan's cousin Michael got married to this great girl Darcy right before Christmas. Even though it was freezing outside we had a great time. Ryan's McCarty side of the family has tons of cousins and aunts and uncles. Especially cousins that are Ryan's age. I grew up with very few cousins my age. I always looked at my older cousins and wanted to be there friend. So I love when the McCarty's come to town. We always have a great time.
